Keung To’s journey is a living representation of the phoenix myth—a narrative of enduring strength, profound transformation, and the relentless pursuit of one’s full potential.
After being expelled from school due to poor academic performance, Keung To took on various part-time jobs through the introduction of a social worker until he later enrolled in a physical education teaching course. During that period he participated in two singing contests that didn't require any entry fees.
Before rising to fame, KT life was fairly simple.
However, over the past six years, he has navigated intricate personal and professional relationships, endured the pain of losing a close friend, and grappled with the challenges of sudden fame, competitive trolling, constant public scrutiny, and the gap between fans' expectations and the company's actual management of his career arrangements, of which by the way has left many puzzled. The open and hidden conflicts within the industry have also left him, an introvert who simply wanted to make the music he loves and perform on stage, feeling exhausted and mentally drained.
If Keung To were only after fame, fortune, and the vanity of public adoration, simply by releasing catchy or formulaic love songs and frequently engaging with fans on social media would guarantee his career a much smoother ride. However, he chose a path driven by a personal sense of mission, one laden with challenges at every turn. For he knows exactly what he is striving for and stays true to himself and his principles. It’s the bold ambition of forging new ground that perhaps best suits Keung To’s true character.
At Chill Club “The New Stage “ on 19 Jun 2021 Keung To said:
I won't be the next megastar.
Every step I take is simply to become a better version of myself.
I just want to believe in myself, stay committed, and be the truest version of who I am.
Amid challenges and setbacks Keung To has grown—not just personally, but also in his attitude towards his work and his professionalism.
"走出金光寺變大意義" (stepping out of the golden temple)
This line is the second-to-last line in the lyrics of “Dummy”. It can be interpreted as expressing the idea that “leaving a place of enlightenment or reflection”, such as “the Golden Temple," brings about a deeper meaning, indicating a significant personal or spiritual awakening and transformation.
Some media outlets captured footage of him limping painfully backstage after his performance at WestKpopFest. Even four months later, at his solo concert, both of his legs were still wrapped in bandages, indicating that his injury had not fully healed. Despite this, he never mentioned it publicly. When asked about it, he would downplay the situation, simply saying, "It's much better now, please don't worry."
He understands that no one is obligated to understand everything about him or the challenges he faces, whether he's performing injured or giving his all.
As the audience, they will only perceive the quality of the performance on stage, whether it is good or bad.
Even if some don't criticize his performance, they still find fault with his physique. It's as if he's fighting a never-ending battle that he can never win. Yet, he never complains. He only sees it as room for improvement and promises his supporters that he will continue to improve his singing and dancing skills.
The longevity and success of an entertainment career largely depend on an artist's skills and abilities. While Keung To may have debuted at the perfect time, benefiting from favorable circumstances, he fully understands the saying, "Flowers don't bloom for a hundred days." Popularity may fade, but only exceptional work stands the test of time.
True talent is the greatest source of lasting fortune.
Keung To embodies the spirit of a true artisan. He knows exactly what it takes to be a great artist. For a Taurus, staying grounded and doing every task well is the true path to success.
One may say that he still has plenty of room for improvement, but the direction he is steadfastly pursuing is the right one.
